FIA WTCR : NINGBO and WUHAN ROUNDS in China : new drivers line-up :

Ma Qing Hua joins Boutsen Ginion Racing for Chinese WTCR races

Boutsen Ginion Racing will have a new driver line-up for the WTCR – FIA World Touring Car Cup events at Ningbo and Wuhan as Chinese star Ma Qing Hua joins the team for his home races.

The 30-year-old from Shanghai will partner Tom Coronel in the second of Boutsen Ginion Racing’s Honda Civic Type R TCRs at Ningbo on September 29-30 and Wuhan one week later.

Ma is a two-time race winner in WTCR’s predecessor; the FIA World Touring Car Championship and last competed in the series in Macau last year, where he set the fastest lap of the Main Race.

Since then he has contested rounds of the FIA World Rallycross Championship and, most recently, Formula E. Ma has also spent time as an official Formula 1 Reserve Driver and has raced in GP2, Superleague Formula, A1GP and Formula 3.

Reigning TCR Benelux Champion Benjamin Lessennes, who has competed for Boutsen Ginion Racing in the opening six rounds of the 2018 WTCR, steps back to his Test and Reserve Driver role for the time being.

The team’s designated 2018 race driver Tiago Monteiro continues his push to return from injury to race before the end of the season.

Ma Qing Hua said: "I am very happy to return to World Touring Cars to race the Honda Civic Type R TCR with Boutsen Ginion Racing. It's nearly one year since I raced in the WTCC at Macau and I am looking forward to getting back behind the wheel of a touring car that is a proven winner in the WTCR. It is an honour to represent my home country in two race weekends in China, and I look forward to racing against some familiar rivals from my last time in the series. I am new to both circuits and the car, so I am very aware that this will be a big challenge, but we’ll take things step-by-step as we aim to score the best result we can.”

Olivia Boutsen, Team Manager, said: "It's been a challenging first season in WTCR for us, but through three top-five finishes, we've shown that we can fight for good results at many circuits - a lot of which have been new to us. Ningbo and Wuhan are two more new tracks for the team, but we are excited about having a driver with Ma Qing Hua's experience on board and look forward to welcoming him to our team."
